Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez promised a huge “bonus” to the players if they beat FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday, January 14, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, reported SPORT on Friday.
The Blaugrana outplayed Los Blancos in the previous January encounter, and if that wasn't incentive enough, Perez has pledged to reward them handsomely for a victory in Saudi Arabia.
Real Madrid enters the match in fine form, securing victory in 12 of their last 13 matches, with the added boost of triumphing over city rivals Atletico Madrid.
According to the report, President Perez reached an agreement with the Real Madrid captains, promising a €150k bonus for a victory, totaling €4m collectively.
This bonus will be distributed among every squad member and the coaching staff, representing nearly half of what they would earn from the RFEF for their participation in the competition.
Perez generally enjoys popularity among the Real Madrid squad, whether by choice or otherwise. However, one effective way to cultivate goodwill with employees is by offering bonuses.
Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 5-3 in the semi-final of the cup after a spectacular comeback as goals from Antonio Rudiger, Ferland Mendy, Dani Carvajal, Joselu and Brahim cruised Los Blancos to a thumping win.
On the other hand, FC Barcelona defeated Osasuna 2-0 with goals from Robert Lewandowski and the teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
Barcelona had their fair share of struggle as they failed to convert their chances in the first half but in the final 45 minutes, Lewandowski showed great composer in front of the goal and gave his side a decisive lead, which was doubled by Yamal just before the final whistle.
